The history of Thermae 2000
At Thermae 2000, we believe there is another way: with us, the human being as a whole is at the center. Located at the top of the Cauberg, where everything comes together: the power of water, the peace and vastness of nature, the centuries-old pyramids, and Limburg hospitality. All of this is based on our core philosophy: ‘Mens Sana in Corpore Sano’. A healthy mind in a healthy body. Founders of Thermae 2000
In 1989, Thermae 2000 was founded as a spa resort on the Cauberg in the touristic village of Valkenburg aan de Geul. Gradually, additional leisure facilities were added, and the heated thermal baths were increasingly enjoyed by day guests as well. In 1993, a 4-star hotel with 60 rooms was even built for tourist guests. In 2010, Thermae 2000 established a Lifestyle Department to advise and guide guests in the areas of nutrition, exercise, and relaxation. In this way, Thermae 2000 has become a true source of the good life.
Thermal spring water
It all began with the two founders of Thermae 2000: Marcel Jaspars and Mijndert Verschuur. They believed that healing water could be found in the Cauberg. And they were right! At a depth of 381 meters, they discovered a spring. And not just any spring: the exceptionally healthy thermal water from this source had been cut off from the meteorological cycle for about 40,000 years and was therefore free from any contamination. The water comes from an underground lake that stretches all the way to the ancient volcanic regions of Germany and is rich in minerals.
As far as is known, this is the only flowing water in the world that contains no caesium radioactivity. It is no coincidence that it carries the strict German quality label “Originally Pure” – a prestigious distinction for water. The fresh water from the springs at a depth of 80 meters is drawn from exactly the same layers as the water from the SPA springs, whose purity has been renowned for years.
The founders, Mr. Jaspars and Mr. Verschuur, truly believed in the power of this healing water for body & mind. As physiotherapists, they established Thermae 2000 as a health resort on the Cauberg, where bathing in thermal water has a restorative effect on the body. This vision is still present at Thermae 2000 today. Our physiotherapists at Fysio Thermae continue to offer treatments in the thermal water to this day.
Pyramid
Even the construction of the pyramid was no coincidence. The emerging pyramid, with its golden tip piercing through the two layers of the roof, was built with a perfect angle of 52 degrees. In addition, the sides of this pyramid are aligned exactly with the cardinal directions – east-west and north-south. This creates special forces at the very top of the pyramid. Those who are sensitive to such energies may notice a remarkable energetic sensation at a certain point when walking up the staircase.
